[Saturday, August 24, 2002 The Halifax Herald Limited-Lori]
DAVIDSON, Margaret Annie "Peggy" - Gables Lodge, Amherst, formerly of Main Street, Springhill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2002, in the lodge.
Peggy was born in Springhill to the late Arthur "Scotty" and Cara (Slater) Davidson on June 27, 1918.
She will be missed by her sister, Sarah "Sally" Knight and her nieces, Margaret Slade, Carolyn Haycroft and Sally Perehudoff, as well as by her many friends. For most of her life Peggy taught in the Springhill school district.
Her students appreciated her in the classroom and continued to recognize her contribution to their lives after they graduated. The acknowledgements from her students were her treasures and the letters she received from former students were among her most prized possessions.
Below you will find an excerpt from a class poem written to her in 1976. Peggy was a pillar of the Springhill community and was honoured in 1988 as "Volunteer of the Year" for the Cumberland County area.
Her many volunteer activities included over 58 years with the Girl Guides of Canada who presented her with the Nova Scotia Mayflower Award, one of their most prestigious provincial awards. Her contributions live on in all the people whose lives she influenced so positively.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Sunday, August 25, in A. H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, August 26, in The All Saints Anglican Church, Springhill, Rev. Frank Likely officiating.
Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
"She had a special way for teaching/Mixed with her own kind way/Of teaching the cold hard facts/To the students every day./She worked long hours, day and night/To solve problems for every child,/Beneath her strict teaching voice/Her gentle eyes - they smiled".
