Obit: GILROY, Shirley Ann [HUTCHEON]

GILROY, Shirley Ann - 70, Valley, passed away peacefully in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro on November 30, 2008. Born in Oshawa, Ont. in 1938, she was the daughter of the late David and Irene (Gifford) Hutcheon. Shirley lived in Belleville, Montreal, Quebec City and Halifax before retiring to Valley. She was a graduate of Dalhousie University School of Costume Design and had a lifelong passion for sewing. She was a founding member of the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia and was an executive member of Epilepsy Canada. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Edward; children, Karen Allen, Halifax; Layton (Melanie), Elmsdale; Barbara (Basil) Dickson, North Milton, P.E.I. She was a loving grandmother to Tristan and Madeline Dickson. She is also survived by brothers, Harry (Jean), Alan (Joan), Manny (Ellie), Bert (Glenda) and Bruce (Colleen). She was predeceased by brothers, Clarence (Edith) and Ron (Gloria). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, from 7-9 p.m. with a memorial celebration of her life held on Wednesday, December 3 from 1-3 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
