FORBES, Violet Mae - 74, 21 Chapel St., Springhill, died January 27, 1997, in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late James Arthur and Carrie Azalia (Pettigrew) Johns. She was a member of St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church, Springhill. She owned and operated a store in Springhill from 1948-1959. She then became a registered nursing assistant and was employed at Sackville Memorial Hospital, Sackville, N.B., from 1959 until her retirement in 1980. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her husband, Alexander Forbes; son, Lawrence W. (Larry) Ross and wife Sheryl, Springhill; stepdaughter, Alice McMillan and husband Robert, New Glasgow; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband, Lawrence Edward Ross; sister, Sophia (Dolly) Hibberts; brothers, Joseph Pettigrew and Arthur Johns. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service at Allen's Funeral Home, Oxford, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Graham Clark officiating. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
