Don't know if you have this or not. Phyllis later m/2 Cleniff A. "Ken" Hiltz
(abt 1915-Mar 1969) from Diligent River.

William and Phyllis had issue of 1 son, Vernon Richard Desmond, who's obit
is below. Although he was 5 years younger than me, I used to play with him
occasionally as a child.

WEDDINGS - Desmond - Graham
A wedding of interest to friends in the province was solemnized at 8 o'clock
Mass in St. Brigid's Church on Monday morning, September 1, when William
Frances Norris Desmond, son of the late Captain and Mrs. Daniel Desmond, of
Parrsboro, and Phyllis Mae Graham, daughter of Mrs. John Graham and the late
Mr. Graham of Fox River, were united in marriage by the pastor, Rev. Thomas
MacDonald. The attendants were Mrs. Jennie Babineau and Dexter Legere. Mr.
and Mrs. Desmond will reside in Parrsboro.

Killed as car ran through their house in Fox River-Diligent River.

CAR RAMS HOUSE, KILLS NOVA SCOTIA COUPLE
R.C.M.P. report 5 fatalities over the weekend, including an accident in Fox
River, Cumberland County, that killed a husband and wife.
Brenda Joan Desmond, 32, and Vernon Richard Desmond, 36, died after midnight
Saturday when a man driving an allegedly stolen vehicle left Highway 209 and
crashed into the couple's home. Their only child was spending the night at a
friend's house when the accident occurred.
Parrsboro R.C.M.P. believe the car was stolen from the Glooscap Tavern in
Parrsboro. The vehicle was traveling west at the time of the collision.
R.C.M.P. said the 19 year old driver of the car, who was not injured, has
been formerly charged and will appear in Amherst Court today. They said the
accident was alcohol related.

JOINT FUNERAL WEDNESDAY FOR ACCIDENT VICTIMS
Fox River, Cumberland County - There will be a joint funeral Wednesday for
Vernon R. Desmond, 38, and his wife, Brenda (Joyce), 32, Fox River who were
killed Sunday when an automobile crashed into their home.
The bodies are at Smiths Funeral Home, Parrsboro until Tuesday when they
will be transferred to Grace United Church, Port Greville, where funeral
will be Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Andrew Sterling officiating, with burial
in the church cemetery.
Born in Advocate, Vernon Desmond was the son of Mrs. Phyllis Hiltz and the
late William Desmond. He was employed with C.E. Harrison & Sons Ltd.,
Halfway River and was an associate member of Royal Canadian Legion,
Parrsboro Branch 45. He was coach of the Diligent River ladies softball
team.
He is survived by a son Derek, at home; a sister, Mrs. Molly Strong and a
brother, John, both of Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his father, William Desmond; step-father, Cleniff Hiltz.
born in Halifax, Brenda (Joyce) Desmond was a daughter of Mrs. Eileen
MacAloney and the late Lawrence Joyce. She was a member of the Diligent
River ladies softball team and of Grace United Church, Port Greville.
She is survived by her step-father, Kenneth MacAloney, Ward's Brook; two
brothers, Larry, Ottawa; Jim, Oromocto, N.B.; two sisters, Sylvia (Mrs.
Roger Leblanc), Quebec City; Anne at home; several nieces and nephews. She
was predeceased by one sister, Angela.
