OBITUARY - Mrs. Daniel Desmond
Following a lengthy illness, the death occurred at her home here on Sunday,
December 19th, of Lena Maude Desmond, widow of Captain Daniel Desmond who,
with his son, Richard and other crew members, was lost when the schooner
"Ena F. Parsons" capsized in the Bay of Fundy in 1933. Fifty nine years of
age, the late Mrs. Desmond was the former Lena Maude Kenney, daughter of the
late Michael and Annie Morris Kenney of Halifax. Coming to Parrsboro with
her parents, she has been a resident here for 45 years. Surviving are two
daughters, Kathleen (Mrs. Frank Feener), of Liverpool; and Paula, at home
who cared for her mother during her lengthy illness; three sons, Capt.
Cecil, of Boston; ***Don, of New Bedford, Mass.***; and William, at present
at sea. Also, two sisters, Mrs. Allen Rule (Bertha), of Burlington, Mass.;
Mrs. John Williams (Reta), of Medford, Mass.; and two brothers, Thomas and
William, also in the United States. The funeral was from St. Brigid's Church
with 9 o'clock Mass on Thursday morning, with interment in St. Brigid's
cemetery. The pall-bearers were: Capt. James George, Joseph Kendrick,
Charles Kelley and Basil Duffy.
