1 CONT Not to make trouble, but to fight for sport. Like boxing and wre

1 CONT In fact, Pleshaw, now Framington's postmaster, , was the wrestli
1 CONC ng champion of Natick, Framington and Walton three years runnin
1 CONC g in 1932-33-34.
1 CONT Even before that, Pleshaw boxed in the amateur ranks in '27 an
1 CONC d '28. He had two fights as a pro, won both, then called it a br
1 CONC ief career.
1 CONT "My hands were getting brittle", he recalls now.
1 CONT In the days Pleshaw boxed, the fighters were often called upon t
1 CONC o "do war" with three opponents in the same stormy evening.
1 CONT And so it was with Pleshaw one night. "I won the first two fight
1 CONC s by knockouts, so going into the third bout I was a little cock
1 CONC y." "I got KO'd in the second round."
1 CONT Pleshaw was the top wrestler around when "wrestling was going go
1 CONC od." Was it legitimate in those days?
1 CONT "You don't really want me to answer that, do you?" he chuckled.
1 CONT "Yes," we said.
1 CONT "Well, yes, wrestling was legitimate back then, but it soon beca
1 CONC me an exhibition."
1 CONT Pleshaw's fighting weight was 149. Not big, but he loved competi
1 CONC tion.
1 CONT FIRST TOWN TEAM
1 CONT He played hockey at Springhill High School, his home town of Par
1 CONC rsboro, Nova Scotia.. In 1925, he was a forward on Framington'
1 CONC s first town team.
1 CONT "We had players like Harry Larson, Victor White and "Puss" Quirk
1 CONC " said Pleshaw.
1 CONT Although slowed down by a hip injury, Pleshaw, now 62 years old
1 CONC , gets out to see as many sporting events as the injury allows
1 CONC . One of his favorite stopovers on a winter's night is Loring Ar
1 CONC ena to watch the Pics do battle.
1 CONT "We weren't as good as the Pics are now in my day," says Pleshaw
1 CONC . "But the players today have more opportunity...more rinks an
1 CONC d things like that."
1 CONT "The players in the United States are better today than they wer
1 CONC e in 1925, but of course hockey was just coming along in this co
1 CONC untry then."
1 CONT "I'd say the players now have more finesse and there's also bett
1 CONC er coaching."
1 CONT B.U. and BANKING
1 CONT After arriving from his homeland, Pleshaw went to Boston Univers
1 CONC ity where pre-occupation with books kept him away from the athle
1 CONC tic arena.
1 CONT Later in life he would go on to the banking business, spending 3
1 CONC 0 years with the Framington Savings Bank. He was also Presiden
1 CONC t of the Canadian Club of Framington, Mass.
1 CONT Between his fighting proclivities and the banking, it's nor surp
1 CONC rising Pleshaw got tagged "The Battling Bank Boy."
1 CONT The worst part of the hip problem is that it keeps him away fro
1 CONC m another love, golf.
1 CONT In 1939 and '40, Pleshaw was club champion at Natick, beating Jo
1 CONC e Burke both years for the laurels.
1 CONT When quizzed about his top thrill in sports, Pleshaw doesn't cit
1 CONC e and one in particular, but speaks constantly of his "love of c
1 CONC ompetition" that kept him going all those years.
1 CONT "Just competing everytime was a thrill," he says.
1 CONT His two sons, Dick and Pete, were standout hockey players at Fra
1 CONC mington High. Dick, in fact, still plays in Heidleberg, Germany
1 CONC , where he is a teacher.
1 CONT Pete, the younger of the two, just finished up at Suffolk Univer
1 CONC sity.

1 CONC sband of Dianne M. (Pleshaw) Bancroft for more than 45 years. Bo
1 CONC rn in Milford, he was the son of the late George and Viola (Robe
1 CONC len) Bancroft, and had been a resident of Framingham for most o
1 CONC f his life. Educated in the Framingham school system, he was a 1
1 CONC 954 graduate of Framingham High School and later attended Wentwo
1 CONC rth Institute in Boston. He had a lifelong interest in aviation
1 CONC . In his youth, he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and obta
1 CONC ined his pilot's license at the age of 15, owning a small plan
1 CONC e in the 1950s. He served with the U.S. Army as a radio operato
1 CONC r and had a weekly program of his organ music on the Armed Force
1 CONC s network broadcast in Europe while he was stationed in Munich
1 CONC , Germany. He was a well-known musician, playing extensively a
1 CONC s an organist here and in Germany. He worked in piano sales at B
1 CONC oston Organ and Piano for many years and was a member of the Org
1 CONC anaires, a local organ club. He loved his family, music, golf an
1 CONC d playing computer games with his grandsons. He was an inspirati
1 CONC on to his family, co-workers and many friends. Besides his wife
1 CONC , he leaves two daughters, Stacy Bancroft and her fiance, Dave S
1 CONC taples, of Worcester, Shelly Frantzen and her husband, William
1 CONC , of Framingham; and two grandsons, Mick and Max Frantzen of Fra
1 CONC mingham.
1 CONT He was the brother of the late Floyd Bancroft. There are no call

1 CONC . Greg Pleshaw told me that his father (Robert) was born to Ad
1 CONC a Croaken out of wedlock and was adopted by Paul Pleshaw. Ada h
1 CONC as always said that she will take the secret of who Robert's fat
1 CONC her is to the grave with her. This seems to be the reason that n
1 CONC either Robert nor his other sons will communicate with us.
1 CONT I think Ada took the boy, Robert, and left Paul when Robert wa
1 CONC s just a baby. Paul and Marjorie then lived with Paul's parent
1 CONC s and Dianne's grandlparents. This is the Pinky she talks of i
1 CONC n her emaiil. Don't think Robert ever had a relationship with P
1 CONC aul even though Paul adopted him.

1 CONT Pinky's mom Ada was alive at the time of Pinky's death, I met he
1 CONC r at the funeral. And yes, it is true that Ada's son Robert wa
1 CONC s adopted by Paul. To this day, I don't know why when she left
1 CONC , she took only Bobby and not Pinky as well. As I mentioned ear
1 CONC lier, Paul and Pinky moved in with my grandparents, and my grand
1 CONC mother became more a mother to Pinky. Much later in life, Pink
1 CONC y made contact with her mother and didn't have much of a relatio
