OBITUARY: Garnet Davis
Garnet Davis, 65, passed away suddenly at his home on North Street on
Tuesday, July 2. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Davis, he was born
on September 12, 1903 in the community of Five Islands, N.S. and there he
received his early education. He married Agnes Louise Ingersol of Boston,
Mass., in Springhill on January 9, 1932. They had one daughter. Mr. Davis,
who for many years was an employee of the town of Springhill, and later
operated his own fish business, has been retired for only one year. He was a
quiet man who enjoyed his home and family and could be found working in his
garden. Fishing was a sport he greatly enjoyed. He was an adherent of St.
Andrew's Wesley United Church. Mourning his loss is his daughter, Mrs. Velva
Jean Hilldermon of Calgary, Alb; and three sisters and four brothers; Mrs.
Charles Ernst, Moose River, N.S.; Mrs. Henry Hibberts, Dartmouth, N.S.; Mrs.
Herbert Aylward, Springhill; Walter of Waltham, Mass.; Ira, Bill and Robert,
of Springhill. Funeral services were held July 5th at 2 p.m. From Brown's
Funeral Home with Rev. Stewart B. Russell officiating. The hymns were, "The
Old Rugged Cross" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". Interment was made in
Hillside Cemetery with Kenneth Gilbert, Edward McCormick, Gerald Aylward and
Larry McCormick, nephews of the deceased as pallbearers.

At the Baptist Parsonage (Springhill) on Monday morning, Mrs. Agnes
Ingersoll, formerly of Somervile, Mass., became the bride of Garnet Davis,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Davis of Springhill. Rev. Mr. Hamilton officiated.
Assisted by Mrs. Lillian McCormick, sister of the groom and Herbert Aylward,
brother of the bride.

OBITUARY: Mrs. Garnet Davis
Following a long period of illness, Mrs. Garnet Davis passed away at All
Saint's Hospital Thursday afternoon, March 1st. Mrs. Davis, the former Agnes
Louise Aylward was born in 1895, the daughter of the late James and Margaret
Aylward, Five Islands. Prior to coming to Springhill, she resided in Boston,
U.S.A. For many years. She is survived by her husband and small daughter,
Belva; sisters, Lillian of Saint John, who was with her for the past two
months of her illness; and Belle, of Boston; brothers, Herbert and Stanley
Aylward, of Springhill; Clinton, of New York; and Lester, in U.S.A. She was
a member of the United Baptist Church. The funeral service was held Sunday
from her home, North Street, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.D. Davison,
assisted by the Baptist Choir. The hymns were: "Rock Of Ages" and "Abide
With Me". Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, the pallbearers being, Kenneth
Stonehouse, Lloyd Mills, Henry Hibbert and Kenneth Harrington. Those
attending from out of town were nephew, Ronald Forbes and wife, and nephew
Kenneth Harrington, all of Saint John; Mrs. Stanley Aylward, daughter,
Lillian and Mrs. Frank Hiltz, of Parrsboro.
