Obit: PETTIGREW, Doreen Ruth [SCOFFINS]

PETTIGREW, Doreen Ruth - 81, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2008, in her home at Northwood Centre surrounded by her loving family. Born in Dodsland Sask., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Marian Scoffins. Together with her husband, the late MWO (retired) Royal Pettigrew, CD, she dedicated her life to her children, community, and his military career with the RCASC, living on several Canadian Forces bases across Canada and Europe. Upon his retirement, Doreen adopted her husband's birthplace as home and became a dedicated community supporter, serving on committees of the UCW, Fire Brigade Ladies' Auxiliary, the Recreation Centre, Glooscap Bazaar, as well as 25 years with the Economy Clam Festival. She was so happy the past five months at her new home, Northwood Centre making many new friends. Residents and staff who grew to love her will miss her humour, playfulness, and gentle ways. She is survived by her dear sister, Ida Webster, Vernon, B.C.; and brother, Ray Scoffins, Port Coquitlam. She was a beloved Mom to daughters, Maureen Matthews (Gordon), Economy; Julie-Ann Bennett (Roy), Halifax; Teresa Doyle (Joseph Dober), Halifax; and son Kevin (Rose Scott), Five Houses. Much loved Nan will be missed by her grandchildren Damien LeBlanc, Amy MacLaren (Craig), Lindsay Bennett, Shawn Doyle, Stephanie Lane (Tim), all of Halifax, and Lydia Pettigrew, British Columbia. Great Nanny Dodie was loved by great-grandchildren, Jacob and Colton MacLaren, Hugo Lane and Peru Pettigrew. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Elsie Lundman; and brother Leonard Hjelmeland. At the request of the deceased, cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held at a later date. Please join her family at a reception honouring her life to be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, in the Economy Recreation Centre.
