Re: Headstones from River Phillip area

Hello John

Long time since we spoke. Sorry to query you from my far-flung location but what I found was a boy. I got him from an NS Vitals picture of the Ripley baby's Births Registered entry.

The location of Mount Pleasant for the birth was entered but nothing more than RIPLEY for Father and Informant; Not Given for Mother. Not Given for When and Where Married.

It's seems clear that someone other than Henry or Elizabeth [my great-grandmother's sister] registered the birth on 31 December 1867. So it's more than possible that the baby was, in fact, a little girl and the Registrar, Grace Philips, heard wrong. But there it is, if anyone wants to look:

Sydney Allan Ripley, M, 5th Feb 1867.
page 59, entry no 54

Since Sydney was the name of Elizabeth's mother, she'd have been more likely to give this name to a girl-baby. But if someone could clear this up definitively, I'd be grateful.
