Maccan, NS: After a lengthy illness, Ed Dwyer Sr, age 83, of Maccan, NS, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2007 surrounded by his family. Born in Chignecto, he was a son of the late John "Jack" and Lillian (Collins) Dwyer. Ed was a veteran of World War II, returning to work in the Chignecto Coal Mines. Later in life he owned and operated Dwyer's Canteen in Maccan. He played baseball for The Maccan Royals, never leaving the team, he went from player to manager. He will be sadly missed by his wife Ruth "Tudie", Maccan; 6 sons, Teddy (Ruth), Maccan, Earl (Judy), Maccan, Bobby (Donna), Maccan, Rickey (Margaret), Maccan, Stanley (Ann), Maccan, Sandy (Tammy), Maccan; 3 daughters, Gloria (Roy) LeBlanc, Maccan, Brenda (Fred) Burke, St. Catherine's, ON, Donna Dwyer, Maccan; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Ronald (Lillian), Maccan, Reginald (Iona), Maccan, James (Margaret), Maccan; 1 sister, Agnes (Billy) St. Peters, Maccan. He was predeceased by his infant son David, 2 brothers Albert and Logan, and 2 sisters, Margaret Marks and Inez Doucette. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777). Visitation will take place at the Furlong-Jones Chapel on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place at the Chapel on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 11 am, Rev. Steven Longmoore officiating. Following the burial in the Maccan Cemetery there will be a time of tea and fellowship in the Maccan Legion. Those wishing to make a donation may do so to the Cancer or Diabetes Societies or the charity of your choice.
