Obit: BUCKLAND, John R E
Buckland, John R.E. - 84 years of age, Amherst, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2007, in the Mira Nursing Home, Truro. Born in Carlyle, England, he was a son of the late John and Doris (Taylor) Buckland. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 25 years, retiring as Chief Petty Officer First Class in 1965. He served in the Second World War and the Korean War. Following his service in the Navy he was employed by Enamel and Heating Ltd. in the Laboratory Mill Shop and later with Dunlap Bros. Hardware Ltd. in Amherst. He was a much loved member of the quartet with the Barber Shoppers, Amherst for 10 years. John will be sadly missed by his daughter, Juanita Talbot (Philip) of Onslow; son, John Leslie (Claire) of Montreal, PQ; grandchildren, Matthew, Travis, John and Jennifer, and a great-grandchild, Vander. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, the former Margaret Lowe in 1958, and his second wife, the former Audrey Travis in 1996. John's remains have been entrusted to the Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777) where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, at 11 a.m. with Archdeacon Glenn Eason officiating. The family will receive friends at the Furlong Jones Chapel, 68 Church St., on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. Spring burial will take place in Warren Baptist Church Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of the donor's choice. www.furlongjones.ca
