It is with deep regrets that we announce the passing of one of the West Coast's most distinguished and dedicated sailors, Chief Petty Officer First Class Ron Guilderson, MMM, CD, Naval Signalman 262, on Wednesday evening, August, 29.

CPO1 Guilderson was from the small town of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, where he joined the Royal Canadian Navy in September 1962. He was assigned the trade of signalman and had served on both coasts and in NDHQ Ottawa throughout his illustrious career.

>From 1970 to 1980 Chief Guilderson served at various shore establishments and ships, which included HMCS Provider, 747 Communication Squadron, Fleet School Esquimalt, HMCS Saskatchewan as Yeoman of Signals and the Naval Officer Training Centre Esquimalt. In 1981 he was promoted to Chief Yeoman of Signals and served on board HMCS Algonquin.

In 1983 Ron was posted to National Defence Headquarters as the career manager for the communication's MOCs. Upon completing this demanding position he was again posted to the West Coast where he served on HMCS Gatineau and HMCS Huron as coxswain. In 1988, CPO1 Guilderson was posted to Training Group Pacific Headquarters where assumed the position as coxswain.

In 1991 he was posted to Fleet School Esquimalt as the Communications Training Officer until his appointment six months later to the Base Chief Petty Officer. After three years he earned the honour of being appointed as the MARPAC Fleet Chief Petty Officer, and retired from the position and the navy in 1995.

Throughout his distinguished career Ron had a significant and positive impact on all who served with him. His vigorous and proactive leadership style and love for the navy made him one of the quintessential Chief Petty Officer's on either coast. Ron's strength of character, commitment and dedication to the service and his subordinates could only be complemented by his personal contributions and achievements throughout his years.

On behalf of the entire Communication's Community, past and present, and all the countless other shipmates and friends, we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and those closest to him, in particular to his two sons Wayne and Greg. We leave them with the comforting thought that all who knew Ron, respected and admired him and that he will always be remembered in our hearts as the steadfast pillar of leadership, loyalty and commitment; his legacy he leaves behind.
