damaged by fire Friday morning.

Wednesday, September 21, 1977.

The North Nova Scotia Forest Owners Co-operative Ltd. has opened an
office at Pugwash. Ralph THOMPSON, Conns Mills, is the manager.

A single engine seaplane crashed in a swamp near Sutherland's Lake late
Saturday afternoon. The pilot, Fleming HENGLEY of Salmon River, walked
away from the wreck and about one mile through the woods.

Died - Mrs. Douglas (Nelson) MASON, 68, Wallace, September 16.

Rev. Eugene THOMPSON, native of Oxford and pastor of Hillcrest Baptist
Church, St. John, won the Centennial Hymn Competition sponsored by the
Baptist Federation of Canada.

The James GOGAN canteen at Heather Beach was destroyed by fire early
Saturday morning,

Duncan FILLMORE has opened The Open Kitchen in the Fillmore building
opposite the Oxford Post Office.

Mr. Douglas CRAIG, 1956 president of Oxford Kiwanis Club, was presented
with a first prize ribbon at the Ontario-Quebec Maritimes Convention at
Toronto for the small Kiwanis Club having the Best Achievement Report in
1956.

Died - Miss Lulu THOMPSON, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.S.
Thompson, Oxford,

September 23.
Died - Mrs. Russell SMITH, 65, Linden, September 16.
Died - Stewart MACIVOR, 68, North Wallace, September 6.

Thursday, September 25, 1947.

The formation of a volunteer fire department is being urged in Pugwash
following the fire on September 19 which destroyed the grocery store on
Water Street operated by Wendell ALLEN in the building owned by Mrs.
C.E. WOODLOCK. A strong east wind spread the flames to Mahoney's Drugs,
Joseph MITCHELL's Store, Fred DAKIN's house and Lamont GLENDENNING's
boathouse, but these buildings were all saved.

Oxford Woollen Mills is closed this week through lack of orders.

Monday, September 3, 2007. Born in Springhill, daughter of the late Guy
and Inga (Olsen) Wood. Survived by brothers Glen, John (Helen) and
Clyde (Grace), all of Springhill, and Leonard Wood, Amherst; sister Ruth
(Gordon) Crowe, River Philip. Predeceased by her husband James V. Wood;
brothers, Harold, Alfred, and a brother in infancy; sisters Lenora and
Frances.

SWEET, Edna Loretta, 90, Springhill, formerly of Wyvern, Saturday,
September 1, 2007. Born in Wyvern, daughter of the late Byron and Essa
Mac (MacArthur) Stonehouse. Surviving are daughter-in-law Marjorie E.
Sweet, Springhill; grandson Michael R. Sweet, Wyvern; granddaughters
Wendy C. Kontuk, Wyvern and Melanie G. Sarson, Collingwood. Predeceased
by her husband Levi Hobart Sweet in 1987; son Roderick A. Sweet in 1998.

THOMPSON, Margaret "Marney", 88, Oxford, Wednesday, September 5, 2007.
Born in Oxford, daughter of the late Robert and Jessie (Dixon) Umlah.
Survived by her daughter, Timble (Rod) MacDonald, Oxford; son, Kim
(Jeanie), Salt Lake City, Utah. Predeceased by her husband, Malcom
"Mac"; brother, Lewis Umlah.

BRIGHT, James "Jim" Gordon, 76, Truro, formerly of Wenworth and
Sherbrook, September 5, 2007. Born in Sherbrook, son of the late Kendall
and Mary (Jordan) Bright. Survived by sons Bill, Burncoat Road, Hants
Co.; Tim, Selma, Hants Co.; brother John, Guelph, ON; sisters Catherine
Lunde, Sonoma, California; Kendra, Lower Sackville. Predeceased by
friend and companion, Daisy Elliott.

ROSS, Walter George, 82, Wallace, Saturday, September 1, 2007. Born in
West Branch on May 29, 1925, youngest son of the late Daniel and Mary
(Murray) Ross. Survived by his wife, Allie (Murphy), married 59 years;
sons, Brian (Julia), Woodstock, ON; Rayburn (Marilyn), Langley, BC;
daughters, Mary Jane (Trueman) Joudrie, Tatamagouche; Wanalda (John)
