NOILES obit
Posted in the Calgary Herald, October 25, 2007:
NOILES, James Cooper
James Noiles of Calgary passed away on Thursday October 18, 2007 at the age
of 70 years. Jim was born on March 6, 1937 in Springhill, NS. He was a
coal miner in the Springhill Mine, where in 1956 he was involved in the
Springhill mine disaster as the last man to be rescued alive. Due to health
issues suffered from the mine disaster and being one of the first people to
be diagnosed with T.B. of the intestine, Jim fought for his every day and
every year of his life and lived for many more years than loved ones could
have ever dreamed. Jim also served in the military as a member of the
Blackwatch and was also an active member of the No. 1 Legion Branch in
Calgary for forty years. After moving back and forth between Nova Scotia,
Ontario and Calgary, in 1965 Jim finally decided to settle permanently in
Calgary. During a short marriage Jim had two sons James Cooper Jr. and
Fredrick William. Jim dedicated his life to his two sons from the day that
they were born right up to the final second. His passions were hunting and
fishing, which he did growing up with his father, and watching horse races
for the last forty years of his life. Jim is survived by his two sons James
Cooper Jr. and Fredrick William; his two sisters Marion Henwood and Evelyn
Noiles; brother George Edward Noiles and many nieces and nephews. Jim was
predeceased by his parents Cooper Noiles and Cecilia; his brother Fred and
by his sister Florence Turnbull. Visitation will be held at McInnis &
Holloway's Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) today, October 25,
2007 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at McInnis &
Holloway's Chapel of the Bells, (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday,
October 26, 2007 at 12:30 p.m. Forward condolences through
www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Jim Noiles, a tree will be
planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McInnis & Holloway Funerals Homes.
Hope this helps someone (there is a picture included in the obit if anyone
would like a scan). I have no connection other than Jim was a good friend
to my uncle James Patrick McLeod. They met at the race track and became
fast friends because of the Springhill connection (my McLeod's were in
Springhill from approximately 1880 - 1937).
Cheers,
Pat in Calgary
