Obit: PORTER, Terry Marwood
PORTER, Terry Marwood - 57, King Street, Springhill, went home to God on Monday, October 15, 2007, in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in Springhill on June 2, 1950, he was a son of the late Ralph M. and Norma L. (Maine) Porter. Terry was employed by the Town of Springhill for 39 years, and even though retired in 2005, the town's well-being continued to be of great importance to him. Terry was a proud member of the Springhill Fire Department, serving as Deputy Chief, then as Fire Chief. Again, "fire talk" continued to be a topic of conversation and discussion. He was also a member of Cumberland Lodge No. 5, Knights of Pythias, for many years. Terry was a passionate hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed the outdoors immensely, especially at Sherman Brooke and Apple River. He was a "social person", and never at a loss for words, as the guys at Rollways and the Town Shed would attest to. Hockey games in Springhill and Amherst had been of great entertainment for Terry the last couple of years. He was a jack-of-all-trades and spent many relaxing hours in his garage puttering around with this, fixing that, enjoying fellowship and listening to "old time music". Terry truly appreciated the many friends who visited, called and took him for drives during his illness. A cherished husband, father and grandfather will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, the former Patti Michelson; son, Ronald, Amherst; daughter, Tammy (Paul) McNutt, New Minas; grandsons, Bryce and Mason; sisters, Linda (Roger) Terrio, Amherst; Valerie (Bruce) Cottonden, Dartmouth; Carol Ann (Ross) Estbrooks, Wyoming; Sandra (Terry) Clarke, Dartmouth; Cheryl (Alyre) Gaudet, Riverview; brother, Shane (Teresa) Porter, Springhill; several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 18, with Pastor Scott Balser officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Hospital Palliative Care Program, GOVRC Workshop or a charity of choice. Heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Beltram, Dr. Atkinson, VON, Cindy Oickle, second floor palliative care nurses, and special thanks to Ken Brownell. In our books, you are the best!
