McCORMICK (Fownes), Ida Mae - Age 94 years, Rodney, Cumberland Co., passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan. Born on October 2, 1913, in Economy, she was a daughter of the late Austin Fownes (St. Martin's, N.B.) and the late Hazel (Elliott) Fownes (Economy). She graduated from Teacher's College in Truro. She married Ray McCormick of Rodney and enjoyed 60 wonderful years before his death in 1994. They built a special life together, including two sons, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Ida worked side by side with Ray in their work on the family farm. In her earlier days her joys included the local 4-H Club, teaching Sunday school and visiting the sick and shut in. Her love of writing had made her well-known as she submitted a weekly column to three local papers since 1940. She shared her gift of writing poetry with all she met. At the time of her death, she was completing a history of the community of Rodney which was settled in the 1800s. She is survived by sons, Irvin (Marilyn) and Garry (Evelyn), both of Rodney; grandchildren, Kevin (Gail), Todd (Jackie), Trevor, all of Rodney; Kimberley (Dave) Wright, of Oshawa, Ont.; Craig (Linda), Colin (Kim), Mark (Julie), all of Rodney; Murray (Lorraine), Oxford Jct.; Jillian, Australia; her older sister of 97 years, Carolyn Howes, Boston. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Baker McCormick; daughter, Carol Mae; brother, Eugene and a brother in infancy. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday, October 5, in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 6, in Springhill Baptist Church, Rev. Perry Hanley officating. Burial in Rodney Cemetery, Cumberland County. If so desired, donations to Springhill Baptist Church or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
