GOWER, Walter W. - 70, Oxford, died Monday, September 17, 2007, at home.
Born in Wentworth, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Charles Edward
and Gladys (Swallow) Gower. Walter had served with the Royal Canadian Navy
and was based out of Shearwater and Summerside. He served on the ships
Corwallis, Huron, Stadacona, Bonaventure and Annapolis, and attained the
rank of Master Corporal. Following his retirement from the navy he worked at
Seagull Pewter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and growing flowers.
Surviving are long-time companion, Sharon Adams, Oxford; son, Vaughn
(Melissa) Gower, London, Ont.; daughters, Karen (Bill Turley) Gower,
Bowmanville, Ont.; Gayle (Byron) Rogers, Dunnville, Ont.; their mother, Mary
Lou Nolan, Brampton, Ont.; grandchildren, Adam Weber, Corbin, Greyson and
Aubree Gower, Sarah, Loren and Bryce Rogers; second wife, Linda Gower,
Kingston, Ont.; brothers, Gerald (Ann) Gower, Great Village; Norman (Jean)
Gower, Wentworth; sisters, Alice MacRae, Tatamagouche; Elsie (Norman)
Tattrie, North River; Myrtle Sprague, Wentworth. Besides his parents, he was
predeceased by brothers, Bernard and Joseph; sister, Frances. Visitation
will be from 7-9 p.m. today in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, Wentworth
(447-2930). Walter's funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday,
September 21, in Wentworth United Church, Rev. Donald Sutherland and Rev.
Morley Bentley officiating. Donations in Walter's memory may made to Heart
