Subject: Obit: CRAWFORD, Harold Jameson -
CRAWFORD, Harold Jameson - 89, McFarlane Street, Springhill, passed away on
Tuesday, September 18, 2007, in All Saints Hospital, Springhill. Born in
Springhill, he was a son of the late Charles and Nellie (Terris) Crawford.
He worked in the coal mines and later became a correctional officer at the
Federal Penitentiary. He served overseas during the Second World War and had
received numerous awards as a veteran. He was a member of the Royal Canadian
Legion, Branch 17, Springhill, and Cumberland Lodge No. 5, Knights of
Pythias. Harold was a great outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, dulsing
and clamming, and spending summers at his cottage in Diligent River with
family and friends. He enjoyed reading and especially looking forward to
"The Herald" every morning. In later years, he was well-known to seniors for
his kindness and will be sadly missed by everyone. He is survived by
daughters, Joan (Doug) Farrow, Amherst; Carole (Leonard) Handley, Victoria,
B.C.; Linda (Reg) Couture, Springhill; grandchildren, Terrilynn, Michelle,
Chantal, Patricia, and Harold; six great-grandchildren; sister, Janie
Fisher, Springhill; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his
beloved wife, the former Mary Johnson; daughter, Nellie; brothers, Frank,
Art, Charlie, and John. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday,
September 22, in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, where the funeral
service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 23, with Rev. Perry
Hanley officiating, followed by cremation. Burial in Hillside Cemetery,
Springhill, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of
choice would be appreciated.
