ROSS, Walter George - 82, Wallace, died Saturday, September 1, 2007, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in West Branch on May 29, 1925, he was the youngest son of the late Daniel and Mary (Murray) Ross. Walter was a committed member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Pugwash Branch. His motto was, "I'll live by the side of the road and be a neighbour to all". Walter was a veteran of the Second World War and retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1977, having served in Holland, Korea, Germany, Egypt and Canada. After retirement, Walter worked as a mechanic for Willard Blair at the Texaco Service Station in Wallace. His last employment was with the Commissionaire Service of Canada in Folly Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Allie (Murphy), married 59 years; sons, Brian (Julia), Woodstock, Ont.; Rayburn (Marilyn), Langley, B.C.; daughters, Mary Jane (Trueman) Joudrie, Tatamagouche; Wanalda (John) Parsons, Cobourg, Ont.; Curty (Ron) Brewer, Oromocto, N.B.; Belinda (Jim) Craig, Gilles Corner, Ont.; Winnie (Ken) Coulter, Wallace Station; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles and Martin. Walter's wishes have been granted and his remains have been donated to Dalhousie Research Science Centre. A Royal Canadian Legion tribute service, followed directly by a memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 6, in Mundle's Funeral Home, 204 Water St., Pugwash (243-2506). Reception to follow at the Pugwash Legion. In memory of Walter, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Pugwash; North Shore Health Services Foundation or a charity of your choice.
