McCLELLAND, Ruby "Doreen"
McCLELLAND, Ruby "Doreen" - 87, passed away at home on Wednesday, September
12, 2007. Born in 1920, in Pugwash Junction, she was a daughter of the late
Lee Finley and Sephora (MacLeod) Hartling. She was predeceased by her
husband, Jack MacClelland, and sister, Laura Campbell. She is survived by
her daughters, Laura Beardmore (Captain K.C.), Victoria, B.C.; Karen
Vance-Wallace (Jim Wallace), Toronto; Jean McClelland (Chris Young),
Dartmouth; grandchildren, Kimberley Vance, Nicholas Beardmore, Christopher
Beardmore, Charles Webber, and Timothy Webber; great-grandchildren, Patty,
Marcus, Chloe, and Abigail. She trained in nursing and graduated from
Jeffery Hale's Hospital in Quebec City in 1943. She practiced in Quebec,
Ontario and Nova Scotia, and devoted over 20 years of her career as the
administrator of the former Children's Training Centre in Dartmouth. She was
an avid gardener and a long-time member and supporter of the Canadian Mental
Health Association. A devoted volunteer, she campaigned on behalf of the
Canadian Cancer Society and other charities. Donations may be made to the
Canadian Mental Health Association or the Molly Appeal for Medical Research.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday,
September 16, with a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 17, in
A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. Burial will take
place in Eaton Cemetery, Pugwash Junction, on Monday afternoon.
