One of the families that has intrigued me over the years is that of
Daniel Strang (b. ca 1790) and Susan Chappell (1798-1856). In addition
to my other research interest, I have actively researched this family
since my first encounter when Daniel was listed with limited other
information in the book /An Island Refuge /edited by Orlo Jones as
eldest son of Loyalist Jesse Strang and Sarah Wright (my
4g-grandparents). The will of George Chappell (1845) mentioning daughter
Susanna Strang later shown to be Daniel's wife led to a document from
PANB on the History of the Chappell Family in New Brunswick, author
unknown, which included Susan Chappell, married Daniel Strang with
children George; Margaret - married Rex of PEI; Jesse; Eliza Ann -
married Crawford in USA; Maria - married Betts in USA; Almira - married
Thompson in USA; Cyrus; and William . Additional baptisms and a list of
children, believed to be written by a granddaughter, expanded the family
to include Mary, daughter by Mary Cole, his first wife; Elizabeth S;
Sarah Jane; Charles A; Joseph Bent; John Alexander; Gabriel; and
Susannah Mary.
Over the years searches in NB, NS and PEI records added to the
information on some of the children while online searches found family
trees of some descendants of this couple. The book /Valley of the
Remsheg/ by H R Brown showed a number of Strang intermarriages with the
Brown family, but provided no information on the parentage of these
Strangs. Access to the Massachusetts Town Vital Records provided
additional information including the death record for Susan (Chappell)
Strang in Walpole, MA on 29 Apr 1856. The most recent information came
from the Parrsboro-Maccan church register which had a Sarah Strong
(sic), Tidnish, (almost certainly Sarah Jane Strang dau of Daniel &
Susan) married to Ezekiel Peer Brown; and Wallace Methodist records
which tied the Brown-Strang marriages to children and descendants of
Daniel & Susan.
