Leo JAMIESON and his wife Donnie retired this year as caretakers of the
Cyrus Eaton Lodge and were presented with a framed photo of the Eaton
Lodge. Leo began working at the estate in 1949.

Tenders will be called for a new 16-room school house for Grades 7-12
for Pugwash District.
A group of college presidents and their wives, guests of Cyrus Eaton at
Pugwash, enjoyed a cruise to Charlottetown on July 21 on the motor
cruisers of D.R. GLEENIE and G.W. MCLELAN of Oxford.
Oxford Desk Company has completed an order for 618 oak tables for the RCMP.
Ernest NELSON's barn at Westchester Station was destroyed by fire on
July 21.
Died - Mrs. Mary Ann RUSHTON, 84, Wentworth, recently.
Died - Vaughan Andrew DOYLE, 34-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Doyle,
Pugwash, July 7.

Due to the scarcity of orders, 60 employees of the Malagash Salt Co.
have been laid off.

Seventy Years Ago
Thursday, August 5, 1937.
When a car crashed into the gasoline tanks near Black River Bridge on
August 1 at the Red Indian Service Station, the fire department was
called out to quell the fire that started. The double gasoline tank and
overhead canopy were completely destroyed.
On July 31 the Oxford Bakery, operated by Howard LAFRENSE, moved into
more commodious quarters in the Knights of Pythias building on Water
Street. A new oven, high-speed mixer and other equipment was installed.
On August 1, Nova Scotia blueberries sold on the Toronto and Boston
markets at 12 and 16 cents per quart. In Halifax, the berries remained
at 10 cents per quart.
