OBITUARY: Thomas E. Hughes
The funeral services of Lieut.-Col. Thomas E. Hughes, of the Salvation Army,
were conducted last week at the Waterman Chapel, by Col. Joseph Atkinson, in
charge of the New England forces of the Salvation Army.. The late Lieut.
Hughes was born at Diligent River, Mrs. W.H. McCurdy is a twin sister. The
first Army services ever held at Parrsboro were conducted by him and he rose
in the ranks of the Army, until, during the Great War, he was placed in
charge of the Salvation Army work in various military hospitals around
Boston. Interment was made in the Salvation Army plot in Kensico Cemetery,
Valhalla, N.Y. Mrs. Hughes, who died two years ago, is buried in the same
cemetery.
