DeLONG, Rene John
DeLONG, Rene John - Of 10 Lorne Cres., Amherst, passed away following a
lengthy illness on Monday, August 27, 2007, in Cumberland Regional Health
Care Centre, Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November
27, 1927, in River Bourgeois, he was a son of the late Harry and Venus
(Burke) DeLong. Rene was employed with Waldale Manufacturing Amherst,
formerly known as Canadian Assemblies for 42 years as a tool and die maker,
later becoming a shop foreman, and retiring at the age of 68. He was very
proficient in all manner of craftsmanship, such as television repairs and
hand painting, just to name a few. Rene was a wonderful husband, father,
grandfather and great-grandfather and will be missed by all. He is survived
by his loving wife the former Betty Fillmore; daughter, Brooke (Stephen)
Searle, Middle Stewiacke; sisters, Mary Ogles and Phyllis Paul, both of
Amherst; grandchildren, Andrew (Diana), Adam (Deborah), and J. Michael
(Jenna); great-grandchildren, Olivia, twins Jeslyn and Ryan; several nieces
and nephews. Rene was predeceased by sisters, Ellen DeLong and Frances
Arsenault; brothers, Cletus and Henry. Cremation has taken place under the
direction of Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906).
By request of the family, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A
family Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in Rene's memory
may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses Amherst Branch or the
Palliative Care Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
