Wednesday, June 11, 1997.

The giant mural depicting the Oxford Dominion Day Parade in 1913 earned
Oxford Elementary school Grade 4 students top honours at the recent Nova
Scotia Heritage Fair in Truro.

The Pugwash Salt Company Mine Rescue Team captured the title of best
Overall Mine Rescue Team at the 1997 New Brunswick Mine Rescue
Competition in Sackville on May 31.

The Oxford Track & Field team made history this past weekend by
compiling 156 points to win the 'A' Track & Field banner, the first
provincial track banner in the history of Oxford.

Twenty Years Ago
Wednesday, June 17, 1987

Seven country dairy farmers have received awards through a new Dairy
Award of Excellence program. They are Albert Angus, Douglas Bacon,
Ernest Baxter, Frank Duizer, Keith Irving and Darrel Smith.

Very Worshipful Brother Ron SMITH was presented with his 60-year bar and
life membership to the Acadia Lodge No. 13 A.F. and A.M., Pugwash.

Work is progressing well at Dave and Danny WOOD's new lumber mill at
Oxford Jct. The former mill was destroyed by fire last November. The
new mill is expected to be operational by late July.

The 91st anniversary of the founding of Baptist Work in Oxford was
observed at a special service
Sunday, June 11. A new Hammond electric organ was dedicated at this time.

Good progress is being made on the new bridge over River Philip at Oxford.

Died - Mrs. Edgar (Margaret) RUSHTON, 66, Oxford, June 6.

Fifty Years Ago
Thursday, June 13, 1957.

The mill camps built by Arnold MCLELAN of Leicester were destroyed by
fire Sunday morning. A forest fire at Windham also threatened valuable
timberland.

Died - John WATERFIELD, 69, Oxford, May 17.
Died - Carl CHAPMAN, 27, Thomson Station, June 9.

Sixty Years Ago
Thursday, June 19, 1947.

Butter and a number of other foods have been removed from rationing and
price control.

A four-legged chicken was born at Harold MCLEAN's farm, Wallace Bay.

Charles N. WILMOT, station agent at Oxford Jct., retires on June 30
after 43 years with the CNR.

ROSS, Dr. James F., Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Gulf Shore,Wallace.
Monday, May 28, 2007. Survived by his wife, Joyce Gillard; sister, Ruth
Olsen; three children, Deborah Ross, Steven Ross, and Rebekah Ross.
Born in 1927, and grew up in the Midwest. He married fellow Doane
graduate Miriam Dewey on Memorial Day in 1949. Miriam passed on in
1996. In 1998, he married Joyce Gillard of Wallace.

COCK, David George, 45, Tatamagouche, June 2, 2007. Born Truro, son of
Willis Cock, Tatamagouche, and the late Dorothy Jean (Goold) Cock.
Surviving are children, Darcy Langille, Dylan Langille and Cera
Langille, all of Seafoam; sister Elizabeth Dunply (Ronnie), Denmark; and
former spouse Cindy Langille, Seafoam.

RAINE-BOYD, Amaryllia "Marlis", 78, Markham, ON, January 28, 2007. Born
in Halifax, daughter of the late James Patrick and Blanche Zola Dixon.
Surviving are husband, Edward Boyd, Northport; sons, Bruce Raine,
Washington State, USA; Barry (Maureen) Raine, Markham, ON; sisters,
Patricia Fraser, Dartmouth, and Evelyn Jepson, Miramichi, NB.
Predeceased by first husband, Wally Raine; brothers, Garfield (Lorna)
Dixon; Leonard (Winnifred) Dixon and Milton (Lily) Dixon.

GUILDERSON, Robert Francis, 93, Pugwash, May 31, 2007. Born in West
Pugwash, son of the late Robert and Martha (Giles) Guilderson.
Surviving are daughters, Holly (Kris) Larsen, Wallace; Shelley (Vince)
Taylor, Toronto; sons, Charlie, Wallace; Carl (Wendy Sonier) and Barry
(Sandy Hunter), all of Amherst; Paul (Sherrie), Toronto. Predeceased by
his wife, Grace (Wheaton) Guilderson; granddaughter, Tanya Larsen;
brother, Walter; sister, Myrtle.
