Hello Rick:
So nice to hear from you again. Sorry for the delay in answering you but
although retired, I was asked to cover for someone off sick at my old
workplace today. I think the official term is called double dipping. I hope
Louise and you are enjoying your well deserved retirement.
Mary Elizabeth Brayley and John William Yorke were married 5 Aug 1888. Annie
Mary is shown on the 1891 Census as age 1 so I would say she was telling the
truth on her marriage certificate when she listed her surname as Yorke and
not Welton. Annie Mary was possibly living with her maternal grandparents in
1901 as Brayley along with her mother, Mary Elizabeth. Transcription errors
are not all that uncommon as I'm finding out. On 27 Sep 1904, she m/2 James
Allan Welton. However, when I look at Noble and Mary's wedding document,
it's filled out as Annie "E." Yorke but signed as Annie Yorke.
There are Falkenham's in Parrsboro but I don't think it was either Stanley
Hugh or Charles Whitford who would be the same age as Annie Mary. Another
spelling is Faulkenham and most are in the Lunenburg area. The Parrsboro
Falkenham's came from Lunenburg originally.

I have a few questions and if they're too personal for nscumber, you can
contact me off line.
1) If James Allan Welton was actually Clarence's uncle, do you have any
inkling which of James' siblings might be his mother or father? Clarence is
listed as a grandchild of James' on the 1901 Census along with an Essie
Maude Welton.

2) If Curtis and Walter were Annie Mary Yorke's full siblings (surname
Yorke), where are they on the 1901 and 1911 Censuses as I assume John
William Yorke died before 1904? Or, if they were half-siblings (surname
Welton), were they born after 1911?
Take care.

Good morning David:
This particular family raises a lot of questions for me, too, like the
details of the Smith Welton in this line). Here are a couple of pieces of
information that I have.
James Allan Welton was the grandfather (sort of) to my mother-in-law, Bertha
(Bertie) Canning (nee Welton). Her father Clarence Archibald was brought up
as James' son. (James was actually his uncle).
As noted below, James married Bessie (Mary Elizabeth) Brayley. Also as
noted below, Bessie had previously been married to John W Yorke. John and
Bessie had one daughter Annie Mary. Annie's first marriage was on November
4, 1914 to Noble A Mattinson son of James E and Minnie B Mattinson nee
Davis. The family does not know whether Noble and Annie were divorced or he
died. On her marriage license, she registered as Yorke and not Welton. She
later married a Falkenham. The family doesn't know any other information
except that he predeceased her.
This morning, Bertha told me that Curtis and Walter were also Yorkes
(Annie's siblings). She said that Walter died in the WW 2 but I couldn't
find any record online. She doesn't know anything about Curtis.
She did not know of George, the brother listed in James' obituary. However,
the Census of 1871 shows a 10 year old brother named George and the
informant of Mary Ann Welton's death was her son George.
The 1891 Census shows only James and James as siblings. A sister, per the
1871 Census, was Rosamond and a possible brother William (a 27 year old at
home).
Here is the obituary for Annie Falkenham who died on May 8, 1965. I have
omitted the floral tributes. I can send them if you wish. This obit
probably came from the Springhill Record.
OBITUARY - Mrs. Annie M. Falkenham the death of Mrs. Annie Mary Falkenham,
75, occurred at All Saints Hospital on Sunday, May 8, after a lengthy
illness.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Yorke of Parrsboro. Her
husband predeceased her in 1952 and since then she has resided in Springhill
Junction.
She was a member of The Salvation Army and a lover of flowers which was
evident every summer in front of Mr. Welton's home.
She is survived by one half-brother, Clarence Welton, Springhill Junction.
the funeral service was held from Smith's Funeral Parlor in Parrsboro, with
Captain William Head of Springhill, assisted by Major and Mrs. Moore of
Parrsboro, officiating. Internment was made in Parrsboro Cemetery. The
pallbearers were Edward Sellars, Shaw Elliott, Harold Spicer, Stewart
Legere, Marshall Henwood and Morton Gilbert.
Blessings!

Subject: [nscumber] James Allan/Alban Welton
List:
I have several queries concerning an obit. I came across.
Who is brother, George and sons, Curtis and Walter in the obit. below??????
James Allan/Alban Welton and his brother, Jessie Stewart Welton married
sisters, Mary Elizabeth Brayley and Irene May Brayley respectively.
His brother, Jessie Stewart Welton didn't die until 1946 and his wife Irene
was the "informant" on brother-in-law, James's death record. The death
record is wrongly indexed as James W. Welton.
Is Jessie Stewart Welton the George in his obit.????
Did James have a step-daughter, Annie Yorke, born about 1890 ?
Did James have a son, James G. Welton ? Who are sons, Curtis and Walter ?
Can anyone fathom out who's related to who on the Welton 1901 and 1911
Census below?
Thanks for any help provided.
Dave
