Obit: GRANT, Vola A [MORRIS]

GRANT, Vola A. - 91, Advocate Harbour, Cumberland Co., passed away Monday, August 20, 2007, in Bayview Memorial Health Centre, Advocate Harbour, surrounded by her loving family, following a long and courageous journey with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Advocate Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Elwin and Ethel (Lunn) Morris. On finishing school, Vola remained at home for some time helping her parents. During the Second World War, she was employed as a sales clerk with the Metropolitan Store in Amherst. Following the war, she returned to Advocate Harbour and in November of 1945, she married William "Bill" Grant. They spent many happy and wonderful years together and in 1995 celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. For several years, she was a member of both the True Blue Lodge and the Pythian Sisters Lodge in Advocate. She had been a Sunday school teacher at the Advocate United Church for many years of which she was member, and had also sung in the choir for more than 60 years. She was a dedicated worker in the various church groups and particularly with the Dulcie Cook Group. She was a member of the Bayview Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She, along with her husband, worked together as a team in doing the work they both enjoyed inside and out of doors. She liked the outdoor life and always helped with the lawn mowing, the garden, flower bed planting and putting in the winters supply of wood. During the summer season, she had many beds of beautiful flowers on the property. She enjoyed doing needlework, knitting, crocheting, fancy work, and made many beautiful quilts. She is survived by her husband, William; daughter, Patricia "Pat" Stronge (Eric), Advocate Harbour; granddaughters, Andrea Rafuse (Brian), Belmont; Janice Beaton (Kinnon), Onslow Mountain; great-granddaughter, Holly Rafuse; great-grandson, Drew Rafuse; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Mabel, Josephine, Edith, Julia, Evangeline, Cassie, Sadie; brothers, Duncan, Leland. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Advocate United Church, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Rev. George Mollins and Rev. Donald Hirtle officiating. Burial in Advocate Cemetery.
