Nellie Morton (Baxter) Nicholson
List:
Lately, there was been some discussion on Obituaries and how & where to
locate them. As suggested, there are websites around that carry some while
others are researched individually from microfilmed newspapers by amateur
genealogists at the various Museums and Archives etc. I only say amateur
because most of us are not certified as Registered Genealogists and thus
cannot use of the term professional. Many of us are more than willing to
share our research time and efforts with others such as Eric, Kathryn and
others.
I copied the 1932 obit. for Nellie Morton (Baxter) Nicholson a few days ago
at NSARM not realizing at the time just how many updates to my file it later
made. All the additional research data below is what developed from copying
this one obit. and the clues it contained within.
Involved were surnames like BAXTER; HATFIELD; GRAHAM; JOYCE; TIBBETTS;
HAZEL; NICHOLSON; McCABE.
Although I couldn't locate him on the 1901 Census, Morton Pierce Baxter,
born Windsor?, N.S. died on 7 Aug 1904 at Port Greville, N.S. He was the s/o
Salter Baxter and Letitia Hatfield. He had married Muriel Minnie Graham from
Diligent River, N.S. on 29 Jan 1903. Nellie was born about 2 months after
her father, Morton's death.
John William Nicholson later m/2 Lottie Daniel McCabe, R.N.
So, please keep those obituary postings coming on nscumber.
Feel free to use any of my data you need.

OBITUARY: Mrs. John Nicholson
The death occurred at Kentville early on Wednesday morning, April 13th, of
Nellie Morton Baxter, beloved wife of John W. Nicholson, of Cumb. Rly. and
Coal Co. Stores Dept., at the age of 27 years, having been a patient at the
Sanitorium since last June, during a long and trying illness. Her death
while not unexpected, renders the sense of loss none the less. The late
Mrs. Nicholson was born at Diligent River, Cumberland County, the daughter
of Morton and Minnie Baxter (later, Mrs. John Tibbetts), both of whom
predeceased her. She was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College and
before her marriage taught school in Parrsboro for four years. She was
brought home on Thursday and taken to her own home, of which she was so
fond, and which had been kept in order for her return. When, and as, her
health permitted, she was a valued and interested worker in All Saint's, of
which church she was a member. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from
All Saint's Church and was very largely attended, the service being
conducted by the rector, Rev. G.R. Harrison. The lovely flowers and various
other tokens were evidence of the esteem in which she was held, and
indicated as well the deep and sincere sympathy felt for Mr. Nicholson by a
large circle of friends. The pallbearers were Messrs. Ralph Gilroy, Monson
Legrow (Knights of Pythias), John Coon, Robert Howard (Odd Fellows), John
Cottenden and Glyn Jones (All Saint's Vestry).
(Didn't copy the list of floral tributes.)
