GIBSON, Mona M. - Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on August 1, 2007, in Oakwood Terrace, Dartmouth, after suffering for many years from the progressive effects of her Alzheimer's illness. Born in Springhill, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bessie (O'Brien) Adams. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased by sisters, Grace (Gilroy), Helen (Young), Edward and Carl. A graduate of business college in Halifax, she worked as a secretary in Halifax and Toronto until 1946 when she married her late husband, Murray H. Gibson, who predeceased her in 1987. In 1952, she and her husband moved to Bridgewater where they enjoyed an active life and raised their two children. Mum was a member of the Bridgewater Curling Club and Bridgewater Golf Club for many years and was an avid and accomplished bridge player. For many years Mum sang in the choir at Bridgewater United Church. After moving back to Halifax in the early 1980s, Mum and Dad divided their time between their summer home at Upper LaHave, Halifax and Florida, continuing to pursue their long-standing love of travel. Mum was a warm, generous and affectionate individual who, throughout her life, loved to sing and dance, qualities which she continued to display and enjoy until the end of her life despite her illness. Surviving are her son, R. Brian (Jeanne); daughter, Barbara C. Blaxland (Mark); grandchildren, Adam (Caroline), Andrew, Michael, Alison and Mary, and great-granddaughter, Lillian. A very special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Oakwood Terrace who so affectionately cared for Mum during the seven years she lived there. Cremation, in accordance with Mum's wishes, has taken place. A private family committal service will take place at a later date.
