Yula grew up and was educated in Advacate and married her highschool sweetheart Walton Rector on March 20, 1941 in Halifax, NS. They celebrated 57 years of marriage. Walton passed away in October of 1998. Yula attended Teacher’s College in Truro NS and enjoyed her career as a school teacher for several years in Nova Scotia. Yula came to live with her daughter Mary Kowalla in Portage la Prairie, MB approximately 3 years ago due to early stage of the alzheimer’s disease. Over the years Yula enjoyed gardening, reading, music, country dances and a good western movie. She was a member of the United Church in Advacate and found much pleasure in being with friends and family. Yula will be remembered for her smile and eyes that would light up a room. Yula’s wishes were to be cremated and taken back to Advacate NS to be buried beside her husband. The family will gather together at a later date for a graveside service to honour Yula. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Yula’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 21 Royal Road S. Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1T8.
