Obit: DOBSON, Ivan Harris
DOBSON, Ivan Harris - It is with deep regret and sadness we announce the passing of Ivan Harris Dobson, of Amherst, on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan. Born in Little Shemogue, N.B., on May 1, 1927, he was a son of the late Richard and Bessie (Ibbitson) Dobson. Ivan lived much of his life in Sackville, N.B., where he was employed at both Enterprise and Fawett Foundries. He was also employed with Dexter Construction and raced horses for Dexter Stable at Brunswick Downs. Ivan's love of horses and racing took him to New England, Montreal and various racetracks in the Maritimes. In his latter years, he resided in Amherst with his wife of 57 years, Marjorie, where they enjoyed their years of retirement together. Ivan enjoyed the outdoors and his love of farming, hunting and fishing remained with him throughout his life. He was a great storyteller and loved to recall days past and simpler ways of life. Ivan is survived by his loving wife, the former Marjorie Stephens; his daughters, Anne (Howie) Lee, Dewdney, B.C.; Marion (Garnet) Burns, Shubenacadie; son, Brian (Veronica) Dobson, Midgic, N.B.; his beloved granddaughters, Katie and Abby Lee, and Jacklyn Dobson; sisters, Elda Hopper, Moncton, N.B.; Nellie (Curry) Gould, Amherst; brother, Harold (Nancy) Dobson, Liverpool, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ivan was predeceased by his brother, Warren, and sister, Vera Dexter. His remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906), with visiting today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 29, at 3 p.m. in Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Tom Hamilton and Rev. Paula Hamilton officiating. Interment will take place in Amherst Cemetery. Donations in Ivan's memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or charity of your choice. www.campbells-amherst.ca
