Obit: GILLIS, Jean Morrison [HILTZ]
GILLIS, Jean Morrison - 86, formerly of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born in Oxford, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Mary Hiltz. She was an avid bridge player, a member of the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. Most of all she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a great love for animals and was a kind friend to all who knew her. She is survived by daughters, Kathy (Harry) Oxner, Dublin Shore, Lunenburg Co.; Margaret "Peggy" Gillis, Halifax; Barbara Hawkes, Halifax; grandchildren, Christopher and Terry Oxner, both of Kentville; Paul Schofield, Alberta; Suzanne and Michael Hawkes, Halifax; great-grandchildren, Dana, Fiona and Matthew Purdy, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, George; sisters, Pauline Gregg and Marnie Bethune. Cremation has taken place under the direction of White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, and there will be no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 27, in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings Co. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Kentville United Baptist Church or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Thank you to the staff of Parkstone Enhanced Care where Jean resided for the past three years. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
