Obit: DURBER, Peter Marsden

DURBER, Peter Marsden "Pete" - Sackville, died July 22, 2007, in Wallace. Born in Grantham, England, he was a son of the late Douglas H.R. Durber and Winnifred (Walker). Born in Grantham, Peter grew up in Wisbech, England. He joined the RAF at age 17 and achieved the rank of Sergeant, being awarded the Burma Star for his three and a half years of service in India and Burma during the Second World War. He met and married Katherine Price in 1948 while both served in the RAF. The family moved to Canada in 1950, settling first in Prince Edward Island, then moving to Nova Scotia in 1953. Peter worked in the Engineering Department of Fairey Aviation before moving to IMP where he worked until retirement in the design department of the Aerospace Division. Following his retirement in 1990, Pete and Kit travelled the world and had many wonderful adventures, thoroughly enjoying their time together. Peter was a devoted family man and a wonderful provider, could create and build anything he set his mind to, was fiercely loyal and proud of his family, diligent, and a good friend to anyone who knew him. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Katherine (Price) Durber; sons, Christopher Durber (Janice), Middle East; Robert Durber, Sackville; daughter, Mary Anne Brunelle of Bridgewater; brother, Colin Durber (Esther), British Columbia. He is also survived by grandchildren, Rebecca, Jennifer, Morgan and Holly, and great-granddaughter, Kirsten. He was predeceased by daughter, Josephine Durber-Dawson; brothers, John Durber and David Durber. Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 26, at 1 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, Sackville, with reception to follow in the funeral home reception centre. Private family burial to follow.
