Thanks Eric for the update.
Cape Breton is part of Nova Scotia? It sounds as though it has its own uniqueness apart from the province.

Cape Breton Island is attached to mainland Nova Scotia at Port Hastings/Aulds Cove by the Canso Causeway. Some Cape Bretoners regret that but that's another story.
JFW DesBarres did indeed found, and lay out, the eventually city of Sydney as capital of Cape Breton in 1785. My office is two blocks south of Desbarres Street and also near Louisa and Amelia Streets (names of one of his daughters).
Sydney, Cape Breton is reachable by car from Halifax (4 hours); by air out of Halifax (35 minutes).
You will never regret a trip to Cape Breton Island. I'm biased, having been born in Sydney, but others will tell you of the history, scenery and people of this place.
Best regards,
Eric

I live on Cape Breton Island about 4 hours east out of Amherst so it's a little difficult to get there.
