I trust that the DesBarres researchers are aware that Col. DesBarres
and Mary Cannon et al are the subject of Will R. Bird's "An Earl Must
Have A Wife". I do not see him as a scallywag but an extremely capable
officer and gentleman, since I too am descended from him through the
Cannons. And he lived as other "gentlemen" did in the 1700's. :)
