In honour of the 100th anniversary of Calvary United Church, Port Howe,
a special service was held and a Red Crimson maple tree was planted and
dedicated to all war veterans from the Port Howe area who died in service.

DOT Area Supervisor Claude CASEY has retired after 23 years with the
department.

Diane (Patriquin) MORIN received her Registered Nursing Assistant
certificate from the Cornwall General Hospital on May 22.

Fire early Sunday morning destroyed the A.T. Betts Lumber Ltd. mill in
Wentworth.

The oldest living alumnus of the Nova Scotia Agriculture college, Harry
R. BROWN, Wallace Bay, was honored when about 70 friends and neighbours
met at the Browns' home to recognize his many achievements and
dedication to the community.

Miss Evelyn GREW, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Grew, Oxford, graduated
as a nurse at Victoria General Hospital last week.

Jean SLADE, star athlete of Oxford Regional High, set new records in
both the discus and shot put classes at the Acadia Relays in Wolfville
on May 25.

Died - Mrs. Tweedy RUSHTON, 71, Oxford, May 26.

Oxford Kiwanis Club received its charter at a banquet at the Knights of
Pythias Hall on May 27. Governor Walter STEWART, Toronto, made the
presentation to the Club's president, Perce H. SWAN.

The A.E. Smith store, operated since 1942 by Mr. and Mrs. L.S. ASBELL,
is observing its 50th anniversary. The business was established by the
late Mr. Smith.

The annual rally of Cumberland County Women's Institues was held at
Margaret King School, Pugwash Jct., on May 27. Mrs. Arthur SMITH, River

MACLEOD, Pugwash Jct.; Mrs. DOTTON, Wallace Bay, were among the
directors chosen.

BOWMAN, Pauline Anna, 62, East Mapleton, Tuesday, May 15, 2007. Born in
Springhill, daughter of Ronald Rector, Amherst and the late Annabelle
(MacDonald) Rector. Survived by her husband, Keith Bowman; daughters,
Michele Bowman of Halifax; Andrea (Tim) Macdonald, Riverview, NB and
Nichole (Scott Corbett) Bowman of Durham Bridge, NB; sisters, Velda
(Archie) MacPherson; Darlene (Leo) St. Peter; Rodina (John) Hatnean and
