Mahoney's and Spencer's Island Cemetery
List:
About a year or so back, there was a "Mahoney" researcher wondering about
the Mahoney's from Spencer's Island.
For some years, I have been aware of a cemetery in Spencer's Island
"somewhere in the woods" containing mostly Catholics but never sought out
the location as none were related to my research line.
Jim Welsh, a good genealogy friend in Maine recently sent me 3 headstone
photos from this "Catholic" Cemetery in Spencer's Island from another chap
who did locate this cemetery "in the woods". The 3 photos are of:
(1) John Mahoney, died 6 Dec 1875, age 80 years; his wife, Ellen, died 1 Jan
1860, age 48
(2) William Mahoney, died 10 Jul 1889, age 5(2?)
(3) Catherine, wife of William Mahoney, died 28 Aug 1895, age 61 years
Although not related in any way, I'd love to piece this family together as I
believe some of them moved up to Parrsboro. One, a Thomas Alexander
Johnston, born 29 Nov 1893 - died 25 Feb 1948 (mother was Ann Mahoney)
became a Catholic Priest and is buried in St. Brigid's Cemetery, Parrsboro
while another, William Brenton Mahoney, a Hotel Proprietor in Parrsboro was
killed Overseas in WWI.
If this same Mahoney researcher is still monitoring these postings, please
contact me.
Thanks
Dave
