Fatal fire in Amherst ruled accident
AMHERST - A fire that claimed the life of a 28-year-old Amherst man Tuesday was an accident, police and fire officials said Wednesday.
In a news release, fire and police officials said that Morgan Matthew Porter and a friend were sleeping at Mr. Porter's home at 69 Lower LaPlanche St. when an unattended pot of food caught fire on the kitchen stove.
The two managed to extinguish the fire.
The friend left and Mr. Porter went back to bed. However, the fire reignited later in the morning and spread throughout the house, resulting in Mr. Porter's death.
