Hello Ruth:
I grew up in Apple River and have been compiling historical/family info on
the village for a number of years.
The cemetery near Turple Hill in Apple River is the oldest and was near the
Methodist (later UCC) church on the Elderkin Road.. It is overgrown by large
trees. I was there a few years ago and could find nothing...... but remember
in the 1950's that a few stones were visible.
At one time both cemeteries were being used since one lady, Freedom (Spicer)
Atkinson was buried in the oldest one in 1875 and her sister Hannah
(Spicer) Field was buried in the present cemetery earlier in 1867.Hers is
the oldest stone in the "new" cemetery.
There must have been a forge near the old cemetery although I have never
heard of it or ever heard it called Forge Cemetery by the old folks (those
born in the 1850-1880 period) . Am certain there were never people there
with family name Forge/Farge.
Have no knowledge of any remains being moved.
Do you have a connection with the area?.
Good luck,
Clemm Larsen
Parrsboro Shore.
