Re: Dixon

Below, a couple of obits downloaded from nscumber. I've highlighted the passages that are relevant to the Dixons/Dicksons.

Annoying that the Oxford Journal is reluctant to refer to Mrs. James E. Mattinson by her Christian name but think she is Elizabeth Dixon born [according to the obit] about 1842 who could conceiveably gone from home with Mr. Ripley by 1871.

**OBIT - Mrs. James E. MATTINSON
The death of Mrs. James E. MATTINSON occurred at her home on Saturday
afternoon, Aug 30th at 3:30 pm. Although being in failing health for
the past three years, her death came as a shock to all.
Mrs. MATTINSON was 82 years of age and was the daughter of the late
Thomas and Sydney DIXON of River View. She was twice married and her
first husband, Mr. Henry RIPLEY, predeceased her some years ago. She
leaves to mourn their loss, her second husband, Mr. James MATTINSON and
one daughter, Mrs. B. J. LANG, who cared for her during her illness and
one son, John MATTINSON of Cabri, Sask., also two sisters, Mrs. Philip
FAHEY [Catherine Dixon] of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Mary McCULLION of

Boston, Mass, also three brothers, John, Thomas and Robert, all of River View.

The late Mrs. MATTINSON was a woman of sterling qualities, being a
Christian woman, she acted the part of the Good Samaritan in times of
sickness and trouble.
The funeral was held from her home on Monday afternoon and a large
number gathered to pay their last respects to one so truly worthy. Mr.
Silver ALLAN of Pugwash had charge of the services, and he spoke from
Eccl. 3rd chapter and verse 1. The singing was led by Mr. J.D. McDONALD
of Port Philip. The hymns sung were, My Chains were Snapped and My
Bonds of Sin Were Broken. and Safe in The Arms of Jesus.
Interment took place in the Pine Grove cemetery.
The sympathy of the community goes out to all those left to mourn the
loss of a faithful wife and true mother.

Hello List,

In the following obit, it states that Sarah Jane Dixon Gray's mother survived
her. I list her father as Thomas Dixon, born abt 1812, died 19 Feb 1889, and
mother as Sydney Ryan, born abt 1819, died 29 August 1868. If this is correct,
then obviously Thomas Dixon remarried after Sydney's death and it would be the
stepmother listed as surviving. Does anyone have any information on this.

**OBIT - Mrs. Daniel GRAY
There passed to her eternal home on Monday, 31st, Mrs. Sarah GRAY, widow
of the late Daniel GRAY, at Rockley at the advanced age of 80 years.
All throughout her fourscore years the deceased lived a quiet Christian
life, admired and loved by host of friends in the community in which she
dwelt. She was an active worker in and a faithful member of the
Presbyterian Church.
She leaves to mourn a beloved mother, two sons,
Thomas and Alexander in Rockley and two daughters,
Mrs. Frederick PATTON, Roslin, N.S. and
Mrs. Cassie CHASE, Oxford, also three sisters,
Mrs. Mary McMULLION, Somerville, Mass
Mrs. James MATTINSON and Mrs. Philip FAHEY, Mount Pleasant and three
brothers,
Robert DIXON, Chelsea, Mass,
Thomas, Port Howe and
John DIXON, Riverview, N.B., survive their departed sister.
The funeral services held on Wednesday afternoon were conducted by the
Rev. G. R. KYLE, pastor of St. James Presbyterian Church at Oxford,
being attended by a very large number of friends. He spoke a comforting
message to those who mourned, also admonishing the living present to
prepare for this great change. The choir sang the hymns, The Lord's My
Shepherd, Jesus, Lover of My Soul. Mrs. R. M. HILLS, Oxford, presiding

late husband from whence they will be reunited on that great
resurrection morn. The pallbearers were, Thomas LeFURGEY, Harry
O'BRIEN, Jas. P. FRASER and Minor LeFURGEY.
