Mary and Jean DESCHETZA, East Hansford, members of the Conns Mills 4-H
Grain Club, won four first prizes in Judging Competition at the Maritime
Winter Fair in Amherst.

William H. DIXON, CNR employee at Oxford Jct. since 1918 who retired on
August 1, was honored at the Community Hall on October 19.

Thursday, November 7, 1946.

Oxford School Board plans to finish the attic of Oxford High School to
provide a 40x44 foot music room and auditorium.

Harry SMITH, Pugwash, has been named new superintendent of the Municipal
Home to succeed Byron COULTER who has resigned.

Grocery ads in the Journal listed coffee at 49 cent/lb., tea at 69
cent/lb. and two tins of peas for 27 cents.

Claude THOMPSON and Charles WAVROCK were prize winners in the Jersey
class at the Maritime Winter Fair. Mr. Thompson was also a high prize
winner in swine classes.

DICKIE, Eugene Ross, 88, Sackville, NB, Sunday morning, October 22,
2006. Born November 22, 1917, in Millvale, NS, son of the late Owen and
Margaret Dickie. On December 9, 1941, he was united in marriage to
Frances King at the Baptist Parsonage in Oxford, NS. Survived by his
wife of almost 65 years, Frances; his children, Judy (Ron) Stephens,
Betty (Alan) Woodworth, Gwen (Bob) Phinney and Cecil (Betty) Dickie.
Predeceased by his brother, Tommy (Lawna) Dickie; sister, Ida (Hubert)
Purdy.

RUSHTON, Ivan Grant, 53, Springhill, Saturday, October 21, 2006. Born
in Oxford, son of the late Walter and Bernice (Purdy) Rushton. Survived
by his wife of 30 years, the former Sandra Fear; son, Travis Rushton, at
home; daughter, Shannon (John) VanDewiel, Windsor Junction, NS;
brothers, Richard "Pud" Rushton, Aulac, NB; Llewelyn (Ruth) Rushton and
Les (Nancy) Rushton, both of Oxford; sisters, Nina (Norman) Dale, East
Hampton, Mass.; Muriel Embree and Lorraine Rushton, both of Oxford;
Gloria Rushton, Calgary. Predeceased by brothers, Leon, Percy and
Mervil; sisters, Doreen and Elsie.

MACPHERSON, Malcolm Beaton, 93, Amherst, Monday, October 16, 2006. Born
in Springhill, son of the late William Alderson and Sarah (Beaton)
MacPherson. Survived by a daughter, Karen (Croyden) Wood, springhill;
son, Malcolm (Anita) MacPherson, Saskatoon, SK. Predeceased by his
wife, the former Mary "Jeanne" Marthe Dufort; brothers, John, Wilfred
and Matthew; sisters, Edna and Jessie.

FRASER, Mary Frances, 81, Springhill, Thursday, October 19, 2006. Born
in Springhill, daughter of the late John and Agnes (Turnbull) Adams.
Survived by her daughter, evelyn Rudolph; sons, Gary (Marilyn),
Brockville, ON; Norman (Sharon), AB; Carl (Shirley) Pugwash; Bill, BC;
brother, Norman Adams, Springhill; sister, Marjorie Adams, Winnipeg.
Predeceased by her husband, Alexander Fraser; sons, James and Jack;
brother in infancy, Donald; sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Welsh, Thelma
McKay and Kay Cameron.
