McALONEY, Elsie Emma
McALONEY, Elsie Emma - 101, Kentville, passed away on Thursday, November 2,
2006, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in West Brook, Cumberland
Co., she was a daughter of the late Smith and Sarah (Skidmore) Pettigrew.
She had been employed as a clerk and later became the first female to be
employed in the capacity of Manager with the former Agnew Surpass Shoe
Company in Springhill. She was a member of the Anglican Church and was
associated with St. George's Anglican Church in Parrsboro and more recently
with St. James Anglican Church, Kentville. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing
and knitting, especially her special "Grandma's Mittens". She is survived by
daughter, Muriel (Vernon) Vickery, Kentville; grandchildren, William
(Judith) Vickery, Edwin (Amy) Vickery, Susan (Peter) Arntfield, Michael
(Ingrid) Dick and Lloyd (Andrea) Dick; great-grandchildren, Karen, Allison,
Laura and Lexington Vickery, Margot Arntfield, Kenneth, Wynne and James
Dick; special niece, Sarah Wetmore; several nieces and nephews. She was the
last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her
husband, Lloyd McAloney; daughter, Dorothy Dick; son-in-law, Gordon
Alexander "Sandy" Dick; sisters, Lucy Pettigrew, Nellie Skidmore, Frances
Dodge, Christine Cole; brothers, James, Stanley, Harry, Howard, Basil and
Hedley; infant brothers, Otto and Percy. Cremation has taken place under the
direction of White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. There will be no
visitation by family request. A funeral service, followed by a reception,
will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, in St. James Anglican Church,
Kentville, Rev. Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. Burial will take place at
a later date in St. George's Anglican Church Cemetery, Parrsboro. Family
flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of
your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to White Family
Funeral Home, Kentville.
