Obit: COX, Charles F T

- 87, River Philip, Cumberland Co., passed away peacefully in The Moncton City Hospital on Thursday, July 6, 2006. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Gibson and Helen (Anderson) Cox. As a young man, he joined the Halifax Rifles on July 29, 1940, and when it was disbanded in England, he went with Sherbrooke Fusiliers Tank Corps, serving to the end of the Second World War. Following this, he worked as a mechanic in Halifax until September 30, 1951. At that time, he joined the RCAF and had two tours back to Europe until May 24, 1969. Upon retirement from the RCAF, he was employed with the Government of Alberta with the Alberta Department of Highways from April 1970 until August 31, 1981. He came to River Philip to make his home in 1996. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36, Oxford. He was also a member of the United Church of Canada. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, the former Pearl E. Adshade; stepdaughters, Cheryl Carruthers (Jim), River Philip; Melinda Mitchell, Riverview, N.B.; Mae LeBlanc (Michael), Notre Dame, N.B.; Rebecca Hannigan (George), River Philip; stepson, Robert Adshade, Wentworth; a number of stepgrandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Phyllis Bowles Parker; sister, Marguerite Travis; stepson, Leon Adshade. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service at the request of the deceased. A family graveside service will be held in Berwick United Church Cemetery on Monday, July 10, at 2 p.m. with K. Ruth Gamble officiating. Donations may be made to the River Philip United Church Cemetery Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen's Funeral Home, 60 Water St., Oxford.
