Obit: BABINEAU, Mary [McAnenay]

BABINEAU, Mary - 86, Amherst, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on March 29, 2006. Born in Belfast, Ireland, she was a daughter of the late John and Anne (McDaid) McAnenay. Mary was a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the C.W.L. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and Between the Hearts Renewal Centre Prayer Group. She volunteered at the Amherst Food Bank. Mary had worked at Fort Cumberland Hotel and the Pants Factory during the Second World War. She enjoyed knitting and had a tremendous sense of humour. Mary is survived by daughters, Carolyn Winters (Jerry), Greenwood, and Sheila Varbeff (Darrell), Calgary, Alta.; sons, Gary (Eileen), Amherst; Brian (Linda), Vancouver, B.C.; sisters, Isabelle Hunter, Essex, Ont.; Anne Stienman, Windsor, Ont.; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many good friends. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Edgar; son, Neil; daughter-in-law, Susan; brother, Thomas. Her remains will rest in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst, on Friday, March 31, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where parish prayers will be held in the evening. Her funeral mass will be held in Nativity of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, April 1, at 10 a.m. Burial will take place later in the spring in St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery.
