Hi Ron:
I have nothing more on Wilbert Harold CANNING other than that his father Harry Oscar CANNING "lied" about his age to enlist at the same time. Harry was about 50 and gave his age as 38 when signing his Attestment Papers. Harry's other son, Jesse Arthur CANNING, aged 30, a steel worker also enlisted in 1916.
All information was taken from the Attestment Papers available on line at the National Archives site.
