Hello,
I am new to this group, but not new to research. I have been trying
to find information on my great great grandfather Alexander C. Coon
and his first wife Ethel J. McLean. He was born in 1870 and she was
born in 1877. The Coon family resided in Springhill. No one in my
family knew this, but I have done the research, and they had a
daughter named Sadie born in 1896. No one even knew he was married
before he married my great great grandmother. Anyhow, according to
the 1901 Census, Ethel and Sadie were very much alive, but by 1911
they were not. This makes sense however, because my great
grandmother was born in 1910 and he was remarried by then. Ethel
McLean's parents came from Pictou Co. and her father was Abner, her
mother Sarah J. She had a brother named Dan who was about a year
younger. They came to Springhill (or as far as I can tell) so that
Abner could work in the mines.
I am currently living in Dartmouth, but I still have family in
Springhill and surrounding area, but they know nothing about any of
