HOPPER (nee Chapman), Frances Irene "Fran"

HOPPER (nee Chapman), Frances Irene "Fran" - 76, Amherst, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Amherst Head, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Margaret (Beaton) Chapman. Fran was raised in Groves Point, Cape Breton, with her aunt, Johanna Bain, and cousin, Catherine. After graduating from St. Charles Commercial School in Amherst she worked at the T. Eaton Co., and later for Murdock Motors, and retired from Tantramar Motors. Fran was a member of Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, and was an active member of the U.C.W. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of the Amherst Duplicate Bridge Club as well as the Coffee Bowling League. Fran enjoyed spending her summers at her cottage with Ralph at the Amherst Shore. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and sewing. Fran was a devoted mother and loving grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; sons, Michael (Sheila), Riverview, N.B.; Paul (Eileen), Amherst; sisters, Joyce (Jim) Shepherd, Florida; Catherine Seaman, North Attleborro, Mass.; Phyllis (Victor) Chapman, Moncton; stepsister, Florence Bezanson, Isaac Harbour; grandchildren, Wesley, Nathan, Eric and Bradley; several nieces and nephews. Fran was predeceased by her brother, Edwin; stepbrothers, Guy and Dana Smith. Cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors today from 7-9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, in Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, Rev. Allan Griffin officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Amherst Cemetery.
