TINGLEY, Irvine I.

Irvine I. Tingley, 88, formerly of Columbus OH and currently a resident of the Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein died Saturday morning December 10, 2005. He was born July 30, 1917 in Amherst, Nova Scotia Canada. Son of the late James Otho and Amelia McMorris Tingley. Irv graduated from Amherst High School and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Chemistry from the Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. During WWII he served with the Canadian Navy. On July 8, 1942 Irvine married the former Pearle MacKay at the Oxford Street United Church of Canada in Halifax. For 7 years Irv was a Chemist with Atomic Energy of Canada at Chalk River Ontario. He then went on to work for 7 years with the Dept. of Mines and Technical Surveys in Ottawa, Ontario. In 1964 Irvine came to work for The Chemical Abstract Service of the American Chemistry Society in Columbus OH as a Patent Editor, retiring in 1989. Irvine was fluent in many foreign languages and while in Canada he tutored Embassy personnel and later used his foreign language skills in his Chemistry career. Irvine was an active member of the American Chemical Society, The Electro-Chemical Society, and the Canadian Boy Scouts were he served as Troop Leader. In his earlier days in Canada, Irvine played Minor League baseball and enjoyed curling. Throughout his adult life, Irv was very active in several Church communities. He had served as Elder, Chairman and he especially enjoyed singing in the Church Choirs. He most recently was a member of St. Peters UCC in Kiel. In his spare time he enjoyed astronomy, writing, poetry and was an avid reader. Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Pearle, Their Children; Richard I. (Kathy Moore) Tingley of Westerville OH, John M. (Evelyn Asch) Tingley of Chicago IL, Ruth (Tony) Wasmer of Kiel. Eight Grandchildren; Russell (Christina) Tingley, Laura (Shawn) Sweet, Rachel and Nathaniel Tingley, Joe (Tovah) Wingerter, Kelly Wingerter, Tony (Claudia Hernandez) Federer, Daniel Wasmer. Five Great Grandchildren; Grant & Brock Tingley, Pamela Sweet, Isai Hernandez, and Natalie Federer. Irvine was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday December 13, 2005 at St. Peter UCC Kiel with the Rev. Catherine A. Carlson officiating. Friends may call at the CHURCH on Tuesday from 11:00am until the time of Service. In Lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name. Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home of Kiel is assisting the family.
