WOOD, Gerald Bedford - 90, Bedford, formerly of Halifax, died November 21, 2005, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Oxford, February 22, 1915, he was the eldest son of the late Clayton and Hazel (Horton) Wood. As a young man, he learned his trade as a machinist at the Oxford Foundry, Oxford. He came to Halifax and operated Fairview Industrial Engineering for more than 20 years, as well as partnering in other businesses. He lived in Fairview for many years, before moving to Bedford. He was an avid angler and an accomplished hunter and marksman. He was a long-time member of Royal Sussex Lodge No. 6 AF & AM, Philae Shrine Club and Philae Scooter Patrol, as well as other Masonic groups. He loved to travel and over the years covered many miles by air, sea, RV and automobile. He was a past director of Maritime Twin Seas Caravan Club and a lifetime member of the Mayflower Curling Club. He is survived by his daughters, Marguerite Hill (Alfred), Halifax; Shirley Whitman (Raymond), Hammonds Plains; his son, Harry (Sandra), Lower Sackville; sister, Geneva Buchanan (Bob), Calgary, Alta.; brothers, Lewis (Marg), Oxford; Curtis, LaSalle, Que.; grandchildren, David, Brian and Heather Hill, Jeff and Jennifer Whitman, Gerald, Stephen and Brent Wood, Shauna Siscoe, and Shelly Whitman; 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Verna; son, Emmerson in infancy; brothers, Mutt, Ronald and Rex. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in Bayers Road United Baptist Church, Rev. Dr. Leslie McCurdy officiating.
