KEIRSTEAD, Mabel Margearite Of Amherst age 78 passed away on Thursday March 31, 2005 at Gables Lodge, Amherst, N.S. She was a daughter of the late Carey and Hattie Crandall Brown. Mabel and her husband John moved in 1949 from Moncton N.B. to Lively Ont., where they owned and operated The Westgate Motel and Restaurant from 1964-1967. In 1970 they moved to Florida where they lived for 2 years and managed Inglis Motel and Restaurant. In 1972 they relocated to Amherst which has been their home ever since. Mabel and John's first endeavor in Amherst was operating the M+M Garage on Hickman Street. Later they managed the Gateway Motor Inn in Fort Lawrence for several years and also worked for Canada Post doing the Rural Route 4 mail deliveries. In her younger years Mabel was very active in the Militia and the Royal Canadian Legion. Later in her life Mabel volunteered her time at Red Cross, V.O.N. Palliative Care and V.O.N. Adult Day Care. She is survived by son Allan Donna Keirstead of Amherst; Foster daughter Sandra Redford of Calgary AB,; sister Mildred Rothwall of Sudbury ON; five grandchildren Mary, Cynthia, John, Rodd and Peter; several nieces and nephews. Mabel was predeceased by her husband John and stepfather Roy Douthwright. Her remains are resting in CAMPBELL'S FUNERAL HOME, 98 Church St., Amherst, Nova Scotia 902-667-9906 with visiting on Friday April 1, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday April 2nd, 2005 at 1 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Mitchell Lewis officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the Amherst Cemetery.
